Le 6AM Club

Le 6AM Club has been around since 2014 and it’s main purpose it to build a community of runners who enjoy waking up early and running as a team. People meet up at 5:45 and start running for, you guessed it, 6AM. This organization demonstrates how to form a strong sense of community within the city of Montreal and also other cities around the world. This club brings people together and allows them to share common interests while staying in shape.

The brief was quite simple, they wanted the design to be completely typography based, no illustration or logos. This project excited me because as much as I love drawing and creating illustrations, it was a chance for me to challenge myself with typography and finding different ways to design using texture, color and movement. I wanted to bring an old school feeling to the design, for some reason I had the blockbuster logo stuck in my head. During the research process, I took inspiration from old merch made for marathons and college track clothing. I tinkered a lot, more than usual to be honest. The two typefaces I was graviting around were Neue Haas Grotesk and Moret and the challenge was somehow blending them together. These are some earlier versions of the design.

I was quite stuck with the color combinations and had some help from Léonie and we landed on these two colors that felt like a sunrise. The way the sun passes through the clouds and slowly starts lighting up the sky was felt with the color combination and overall design. For the final design, I wanted movement to be felt within the design so I added stripes running through ‘‘Le 6AM Club’’ design which can be seen more clearly in person.
